A pair of Section 1A foes came together for a non-conference match Saturday afternoon, with the Blooming Prairie girls' basketball team taking a 46-36 win at Southland.
Kari Lueth and Angela Noble scored 12 points apiece to lead the Blossoms (11-10, 7-5) back above .500. Southland got 15 from Amanda Landherr and 11 more from Carrie Shawback in falling to 4-17 overall.
Both teams played as though they were drained from their conference games the night before. Blooming Prairie lost 50-34 at sixth-ranked Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton, while the Lady Rebels were defeated 72-59 by visiting Plainview.
"Their lead never got any bigger than the final score," Southland coach Slone Suess said of Saturday's non-conference loss. "It was a pretty close game. I think our girls were a little tired, we played kind of flat."
Blooming Prairie brought its own atmosphere in winning with a balanced scoring effort.
"We were a little flat, and there wasn't much of a crowd," said BPHS coach John Worke.
The Blossoms made more free-throws (12) than Southland attempted (11), and won the rebounding battle 28-24.
Blooming Prairie hosts a non-conference match Monday against Hayfield, who was defeated Friday night by Rochester Lourdes 56-40 in Hiawatha Valley League action. Southland entertains Chatfield Tuesday in a Southeast Conference contest.
