Spring Grove got going with a 22-10 first-quarter lead and Lyle/Pacelli never recovered on the road Friday night. The host Lions held L/P to just six points in the second period and pounded out a 72-50 Southeast Conference victory.
Lyle/Pacelli improved as the game went on, scoring 34 of its 50 points in the second half. L/P fell to 1-14 overall and 1-7 in league play.
"We played a much better second half," said L/P head coach Gary Erlandson. "We played better team basketball and passed the ball around."
Mark Van Winter led Lyle/Pacelli with 17 points and eight rebounds, while Joey Greibrok chimed in for 14 points that included a pair of three-pointers.
Nine different players scored for L/P, which lost its fifth straight.
Matt Landsom hit all five of Spring Grove's three-pointers and finished with a game-high 23 points. Alex Roverud added 16 and Sam Morken chipped in 11 for the Lions (8-5, 6-2).
Lyle/ Pacelli hosts Glenville-Emmons for an SEC rematch Thursday night at Pacelli High School in Austin. L/P led for most of the first meeting with G-E before the Wolverines battled back to win in overtime, 65-62, back on Dec. 10.
