Southland finishes strong at Cannon Falls Invite

The Southland wrestling team stood up to some big-city competition on Saturday and emerged with a pair of champions and a third-place team finish from the Cannon Falls Invitational.
Shakopee won the 12-team event with close competition coming from the host Bombers. Southland edged out Woodbury for third place by two points.
Adam Landherr won his weight class for the fourth time in as many years, crowning himself the 152-pound champion with a 17-5 major decision over Matt Wilson of Cannon Falls.
Landherr, rated atop Class A, has finished in the top three at Cannon Falls in each of his six seasons.
Isaac Klaehn won the 130-pound class, earning a 3-1 decision over Brian Messerli of Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop in the finals.
Four other Rebel wrestlers placed fourth. Dan Klingfus, who debuted in the Class A rankings released Dec. 31 by The Guillotene at No. 10, was pinned in 37 seconds by Class AA's fourth-ranked Seth Flodeen of Cannon Falls in the 103 finals.
Eighth-ranked Zach Stratton lost a 7-5 decision to Colin O'Brien of Shakopee, and Pete Churchill suffered a 9-4 defeat to Woodbury's Brad Kallman.
Joe Klaehn, ranked seventh at 130, was pinned in the first minute against Micah Flodeen, AA's top-ranked 130-pounder, in the 135 championship. Flodeen, of Cannon Falls, was named the tournament's Outstanding Wrestler for winning his fourth consecutive title at the event.
Southland's Lucas Smith was third at 160, while Corey Mees picked up fifth with a final-round pin at 119.
The Rebels wrestle again Friday night in Spring Valley in a non-conference dual against arch-rival GMLOK.

Bulldogs second to Medford
GMLOK took second place at its own four-team tournament, trailing only Medford Saturday in Grand Meadow.
Five Bulldog wrestlers emerged with flawless 3-0 records. Adam Schlee, rated fifth at 112 pounds in Class AA, won the 119-pound field. Taylor Bunne was 3-0 at 130, and Mitch Mosher (135), Josh Bain (103) and Kyle Stern (189) also finished the day undefeated.
Medford was first with 147 team points, followed by GMLOK (125), Triton (111) and Alden-Conger (24).
Austin fifth at Burnsville
T.J. Parlin's first-place finish highlighted the Austin Packers' fifth-place finish out of nine teams at the Burnsville Invitational Saturday.
Parlin, rated first in Class AAA, posted a 12-4 major decision over Byron's Chandler Giles, who is ranked eighth in A.
Parlin was the only Packer wrestler to reach Saturday's first-place finals.
Class AAA's fifth-ranked Eastview won the team title by seven points over Hastings. Burnsville, Byron and Austin followed for the top five. The Packers were 4-0 in finals matches head-to-head with Byron but trailed the Bears by 27.5 points in the final team standings.
Six Austin grapplers got into the match for third place, and five were victorious.
Danny Rysavy led off with a third-place win at 103 pounds. Nick Zrucky took the bronze at 135, while Dave Cunningham got fourth at 140.
Marcus Ball won a 7-6 decision for third at 160, while Josh Solberg got a 15-8 win at 171. Robert Frost pinned Byron's Josh Berge in 1:36 for third at 215.
Other top finishers for Austin included Andy Graham's fifth-place win by fall in 2:27 over Kane Bechstein of Eastview. Garrett Plotts placed fifth at 189, while Matt Day took sixth at heavyweight.
The Packers host Winona for a Big Nine Conference dual Thursday night with junior varsity starting the meet at 6 p.m.

Blossoms fourth at Mont-Lons
A pair of first-place finishes led the Blooming Prairie matmen to a fourth-place team standing at the Redbird Invitational hosted by Montgomery-Lonsdale Saturday.
Third-ranked Jay Salinas won the 215-pound title, defeating Lakeville's Matt Kuenzil in the finals. Billy Lindquist beat Brett Johnson, also of Lakeville, to win the 135 crown.
Grant Johnson (119) and Luke Nelson (125) also reached the Redbird finals, giving way for second place on the day. Shelby Parks (130) and fourth-ranked Steven Salinas (171) came in third in respective weights, while Sam Tashima (112), Brad Klemmensen (140) and Reese Hageman (275) got fourth.
