Sarah A. Olson, 101

Sarah Alma Brush Olson, 101, was born Dec. 8, 1901, in Brooklyn, Iowa to Ralph and Frances (Chvala) Brush. They moved to Hudson Road in Cedar Falls, Iowa, where she graduated from school. On Oct. 24, 1923, she married Victor N. Olson of Waterloo, Iowa. They moved to St. Paul, Minn. in the late 1920's, where they owned the Olson Furniture Store on Payne Avenue. In the late 1930's they built their home in South Minneapolis. They were divorced in 1958. Sarah entered the Board and Care Unit of the Minnesota Masonic Home in 1994, where she lived until the time of her death. She died at Methodist Hospital, St. Louis Park, Minn. on Dec. 30, 2002.

Sarah was a 63-year member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Minneapolis. She was a 73-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star – Oriental Chapter #187. She worked for several years as a cook at Minnehaha Academy in Minneapolis. She will be remembered for her smile, her kind and loving ways and her devotion to her family.

She is survived by her daughter, Alice Johnson, Austin, Minn.; three grandchildren, Kim Johnson (Tim Kalleberg), Zumbrota, Minn.; Dawn Nelson (Mike Olds), Missoula, Mont.; and Matthew (Stephanie) Johnson, New London, Minn.; five great-grandchildren, Erik and Kristine Nelson, Kasson, Minn.; and Daiton, Drake and Jaidon Johnson, New London, Minn.; brother, Earl (Dorothy) Brush, Cedar Falls, Iowa; nieces and nephews.

Her parents, Ralph and Frances Brush; daughter, Mary Louise Olson in 1926; and sister, Leota (Jim) Christensen preceded her in death.

Services were held at the Minnesota Masonic Home Chapel in Bloomington at 2 p.m. on Jan. 4, 2003, with Rev. Tindell officiating. Jennifer Sippel, Minneapolis, was the musician and Julene Flink, Minneapolis, was the vocalist. Both are from Austin, Minn. Burial will be in Cedar Falls, Iowa.
