Helen Marie Nelson, 71
Helen Marie Nelson, 71, of Lyle, died Thursday, Jan. 23, 2003, at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester.
She was born July 2, 1931, in Lyle, to Floyd and Pearl Heard.
She and her sister Ruth lived for many years with her sister and brother-in-law, Mildred and Lavern Austinson. After graduating from Lyle High School, she attended the Minneapolis School of Business. She returned to Austin to work in the Hormel Foods office.
On Oct. 14, 1950, she married Robert Nelson at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Lyle. They made their home in Lyle for 52 years. She worked at the Evenson Bridal Shop and was the Deputy City Clerk for several years.
She belonged to Six Mile Grove Lutheran Church and the Lyle Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed sewing, crafts and making quilts for her family. She was an avid golfer and loved to watch sports on TV. She was a loving supporter of her children and grandchildren.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Debra and Paul Wilson, Mantorville; son and daughter-in-law, Joel and Penny Nelson, Plainview; daughter-in-law, Sandy Anderson, St. Cloud; 10 grandchildren; five great grandchildren; two brothers-in-law, Lavern Austinson and Warren Austinson; sister-in-law, Eileen Heard; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Iris and Clare Vincent; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; son, Jeffrey; three sisters and three brothers.
Visitation: 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 26, 2003, at the funeral home and Monday at the church one hour before the service.
Service: 11 a.m. Monday at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Lyle with Rev. Lydia Mittag officiating.
Interment: Grandview Cemetery.

Melvin Albert Wacholz, 80
Funeral services for Melvin A. Wacholz, age 80, of Glenville will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, January 25, 2003, at Hayward Lutheran Church. Rev. John Malm will officiate. Interment will be in Hayward Cemetery. Visitation is 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, January 24, 2003, at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church.
Melvin died Wednesday, January 22, 2003, at his home.
Melvin Albert Wacholz was born November 3, 1922, to Herman O. and Ella A. (Lutteke) Wacholz in Mansfield Township. He attended country school. On October 20, 1944, Melvin was united in marriage to Beatrice Marie Kycek in Albert Lea. The couple has lived on the same farm for the last 51 years. Melvin was a member of Hayward Lutheran Church, the Moose, and the Eagles. He enjoyed his pets and spending time with his family and friends. Farming was his true love.
Survivors include his wife, Beatrice, sons: Wayne and wife Pat and Gerald and wife Jacque; grandchildren: Heidi and husband, Tom Keating of Denver, Colo., Cazzi, also of Denver, Kristie and husband, Kurt Christiansen of Minneapolis, and Darren of Eyota; and one great-grandchild, Tyson Chase.
Melvin was preceded in death by his parents, Ella and Herman and his brother, Leroy.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the chair lift fund at the Hayward Lutheran Church.
