Whitney Johnson won three of four events and the all-around competition, but the Austin girls' gymnastics team took runner-up to Waseca in a non-conference dual at Waseca Tuesday night.
Johnson paced the Packers by winning the uneven parallel bars, the balance beam and the vault, and she came in second on the floor exercise.
Johnson's top individual score was an 8.75 on the vault, in which she tied for first with Waseca's Ashley Cummins.
The host Bluejays won the dual 130.875 to 123.15.
"Whitney Johnson had a magnificent night last night," said Austin coach Billie Jo Wicks. "We were very pleased with her performance in all events."
Johnson's all-around total was 33.875.
Junior Danielle Chapek was again missing from action due to a knee and ankle injury. Her added scoring would have likely lifted Austin (3-7) to a dual meet victory.
"We did miss her presence and scores, but at the same time I feel that our score is consistent with what we've been seeing most of the season," Coach Wicks said. "It's nice to see that we are getting stronger as a team and not needing to rely on individuals as much."
The Packer gymnastics team plays host to the Big Nine Conference meet Feb. 8 at Austin High School. The league invite will start at 1 p.m.
