Group#039;s service needed

After law enforcement officials arrested a man in connection with the manufacture of methamphetamines, his dogs were left to roam around the property.

Two were taken in by the Mower County Humane Society. Unfortunately, the Humane Society is already crowded and since it relies solely on donations, is hurting for funds to support the animals it takes in.

The Humane Society has asked for reimbursement from the county for housing the dogs, but Sheriff Terese Amazi will need to request money from the county board in order to do so.

A situation like this shows just how important it is to spay or neuter pets. Pet overpopulation isn't good for the animals that end up without homes, and it creates a potential harm for humans if the animals on the loose become violent.

With the situation the Humane Society is in now, it could use a boost. Without the organization, more animals would be running loose in our area. The animals that the Humane Society picks up are not vicious, but pets for adoption.

We hope the organization and local law enforcement are able to work something out. The Humane Society shouldn't be penalized financially for offering their services.
