Blossoms#039; balance leads to Gopher/Valley triumph

An all-around balanced effort brought the Blooming Prairie boys' basketball team a 53-42 Gopher/Valley Conference road win at Janesville Tuesday night.
Jon Peterson paced the Blossoms with 17 points, followed by 11 from David Kramer, eight from Blake Symes, and seven more from Kraig Olson. Blooming Prairie is 9-1 this season and 4-0 in league play.
Peterson was 8-8 from the field and led the team in scoring despite not playing in the third quarter.
The Blossoms trailed only once and led JWP by as many as 13 points in the fourth. BPHS hosts Mankato Loyola on Friday night in Blooming.
Free throws seal Hayfield's Hiawatha Valley victory
Hayfield evened its record at 5-5 overall with a 51-48 Hiawatha Valley League victory over Pine Island Tuesday night in Hayfield.
The Vikings got 19 points from sophomore David Johnson, including an 11-14 free-throw performance in the second half alone. Johnson hit 4-4 free-throws and Bryan Oelkers was 2-2 inside the final minute to seal the victory.
Kramer finished with 12 points and Oelkers added seven points and seven rebounds.
Hayfield (5-5, 3-2) visits Kenyon-Wanamingo for an HVL battle Friday night.
Girls teams less fortunate in Tuesday hoops scoop
In area girls' prep basketball action Tuesday, Southland got 17 points from Amanda Landherr but lost a 58-44 Three Rivers Conference contest at Chatfield. The Rebels (1-9, 1-7) host Goodhue on Friday.
Alden-Conger beat Grand Meadow 51-37 in a Southeast Conference game, and Dover-Eyota thumped LeRoy-Ostrander 99-26 in non-conference action.
Hayfield fell 40-19 to host Pine Island in HVL action.
