Southland shot the Knights' lights out Friday night in Sping Valley, stopping Class 2A's ninth-ranked Kingsland in a 64-57 Three Rivers Conference win.

Southland hit six three-pointers in building a 21-10 first-quarter lead and held off Kingsland with free-throws and post play down the stretch. Tim Schneider scored a season-high 28 points for the Rebels and the team hit 11-13 free-throws in the final frame.

The Rebels (4-3, 3-1) hit 10 shots from three-point land during the game, including a trio of treys from Dan Bakker in the first quarter. He finished with five trifectas and 22 points.

"Three-pointers were a big difference for the night," said Southland coach Greg Storey. "We got out to a big lead and played solid all night."

Half of Southland's 20 field-goals were three-pointers. The Rebels were 10-20 inside the arc and 10-23 beyond it. In addition to Bakker's five treys, Schneider netted two and Steve Snyder, Chad Wilson and Greg Retterath nailed one each.

Kingsland (2-1, 2-1) was 1-13 from three-point range.

Rebounding was awash as both teams brought down 26 boards. Schneider led Southland with 10 for a double-double.

The Rebels are done until after the new year, starting with a pair of Three Rivers home games. Dover-Eyota travels to Adams on Jan. 6, and Chatfield visits on Jan. 7.
