Snyder#039;s shutout surges Packer girls through to semifinals

Eighth-grade goalie Amy Snyder recorded her second shutout of the season as the Austin girls' hockey team got through the first round Thursday with a 4-0 win over St. Peter/LeSueur-Henderson at the Cardinal Ice Invitational in Fairmont.

The Packers got goals from four different players, including the first of the season for defenseman Sara DeVries. DeVries also got her first assist of the year as Austin moved into the semifinals in hopes of successfully defending its tournament championship.

Austin (7-7) got three points from Kristin Faber, who moved her team-leading totals to 16 goals and 10 assists with one goal and two assists against St. Peter. The Packers play Windom Area in today's 5 p.m. semifinal. Windom got a bye through the first round of the seven-team tournament.

Snyder lowered her goals-against-average to 3.25 while upping her overall record to 4-4 in net for the Packers. She has both Austin shutouts this season.

"She made some really nice saves and she got the shutout," said AHS coach Denny Bray.

St. Peter (8-2-2) averaged 3.3 goals entering the Fairmont tournament.

Courtney Hughes, Jessica Petersen and DeVries each had a goal and an assist for Austin.
