Kathy Jo Cochlin, 53

Kathy Jo Cochlin, 53, of Austin, died Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2002 at the Austin Medical Center.

She was born Jan. 12, 1949, in Austin, to Donald and Elaine (Bailey) Ball.

On Dec. 4, 1977, she married Timothy Cochlin in Austin.

Survivors include husband, Tim Cochlin, Austin; daughter, Jillann (Adam) Guidi, Eagan; brothers and sisters, Rick (Nancy) Ball, Lakeville; Barbara (Larry) Helland, Rosemount; Donna Wilson, Dodge Center; Ruth (Ross) Chamberlain, Austin; Nancy Robinson, Central City, Colo.; Patty (Dan) McDonald, Inver Grove Heights; Steve (Karen) Ball, Rosemount; Kris (Tim) McInnis, Apple Valley; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 13, 2002, at the funeral home and Saturday at the church for one hour before the service.

Service: 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Fellowship United Methodist Church in Austin with Rev. Marvin Repiniski officiating.

Interment: Cedar City Cemetery.

Ray Carroll, 83

Ray Carroll, 83, died suddenly at his home Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2002.

He was born Oct. 16, 1919, in North Chicago, Ill., to Edward L. and Mary Katherine (Sheridan) Carroll.

In 1943, he married Florence Stephens at St. Augustine Church.

Ray retired from Hormel Foods in 1981. He was a member of the Knight of Columbus of Austin and the Eagles Club of Austin.

Survivors include his wife, Florence, Austin; children, Ruth Carroll (Mary Olive), Mountain Mesa, Calif.; Patricia (Pete) Viktora, Round Up, Mont.; Bert (David) Fairbanks, St. Paul; Sue (Larry) Flatten, Albert Lea; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; brothers, Edward Carroll, Francis Carroll, James (Marge) Carroll, all of Austin.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister.

Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 13, 2002, with a 7 p.m. KC Rosary and Saturday from noon to 1 p.m. at the funeral home.

Service: 1:30 p.m. Saturday at St. Augustine Catholic Church with Father Paul Nelson officiating. Casket Bearers will be Benjamin Fairbanks, Tony Flatten, Duane Miller, Bobby Crews, Brian Theobald, Matthew Fairbanks, Christopher Fairbanks.

Interment: Calvary Cemetery.

Vernon H. Holst, 90

Vernon Hooper Holst, 90, of Austin, died Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2002, at Stacyville Community Nursing Home.

He was born July 5, 1912, to Henry and Sophia (Hooper) Holst in Red Wing. The oldest of five children, he attended school in Rock Creek in north central Minnesota and moved as a young adult near Austin with the family.

He served his country during World War II as a Merchant Marine. Upon returning home from service, he farmed, became an auctioneer and prominent real estate agent in the Austin area, specializing in farms as a member of the National Real Estate Association. Licensed in Minnesota, Iowa and Illinois. He enjoyed discussing history, religion, politics and farming.

Vernon was a member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church.

He entered the Stacyville Community Nursing Home in April of 1998.

Survivors include sisters, Lois Nelson, Hastings; Jean (Pete) Kuhlman, Sargeant.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Raymond; and sisters, Irene Barnum and Ione Staples.

Visitation: One hour before the service only.

Service: 1 p.m., Friday, Dec. 13, 2002, at the funeral home with the Rev. Ron Barnett officiating.

Interment: Oakwood Cemetery with military rites by American Legion Post 91 and VFW Post 1216.
