Larks sunk by Alden

Grand Meadow's fast start may somehow be holding the girls' basketball team back.

After scoring 82 points in its season-opening victory over rival LeRoy-Ostrander, the GM girls' squad has not scored more than 36 points in three consecutive losses. The most recent in the string was a 45-33 defeat handed down by Alden-Conger Tuesday night in Grand Meadow.

"Their size got to us," said GM coach Mike Norton. "They went inside most of the time, but I thought we played pretty good defense for the most part."

Alden-Conger used its slight height advantage over the Superlarks to take a three-point halftime lead and turn it into a 12-point win.

Grand Meadow (1-3, 1-1) netted just eight field-goals in the loss, its third straight. The Superlarks hope to kick the losing skid with a trip to Houston Thursday night.

"We should do well, we need to score more," Norton said. "Maybe it was too easy for us in that first game."

Sarah Holm led the Larks with 11 points, while Kelli Petzel chipped in with seven and Nickole Stier added six.
