Hayfield wrestlers place sixth in tourney

The Hayfield wrestling team traveled to Waseca on Saturday to participate in an eight-school tournament, and despite taking only part of the team the Vikings still earned a sixth-place finish.
While eight grapplers traveled to the meet to represent the team, six of them placed during the meet.
&uot;I feel we did very well considering we only a part of the team,&uot; said Hayfield coach Will Pazurek. &uot;I’m real happy with how the kids wrestled.&uot;
Shane Masching went 3-0 in the meet and took home the championship for the 130-pound category. George Evjen and Carl Bamlet both came away with third-place finishes in the 145 and heavyweight weight groups respectively.
Steven Emerick secured fourth place at 119, while teammates Brad Evans (171) and Brandon Klocke (135) wrestled into fifth-place spots.
Hayfield will host a triangular on Tuesday with Kenyon-Wanamingo and USC.
Blooming Prairie wrestler takes home honors
While the Blooming Prairie wrestling team won only one of the three dual meets they competed in on Saturday at the Coon Rapids Tournament, four wrestlers came away with 3-0 records and another earned trophy honors.
Grant Johnson (119), Steve Salinas (171), Luke Nelson (130), and Billy Lindquist (140/145) all went undefeated during the competition, while Luke
Nelson earned recognition for having the most pins in the least amount of time.
The Blossoms lost their first dual to Rosemount 41-28, but grappled their way to a 46-24 win against Osseo. BP lost their final meet to Eastview 31-30.
&uot;I’m very pleased with how the boys wrestled,&uot; said Blossoms coach Dave Pfiefer. &uot;The boys got stronger as the day went on. Everyone got at least one win during the day.&uot;
Blooming Prairie will wrestle at home on Thursday as it will host Gopher/Valley conference foe USC.
