Mabel-Canton knocked Lyle/Pacelli to 0-8 and 0-3 in the Southeast Conference with a 58-48 boys' basketball victory Thursday night.
The host Cougars held a 33-22 lead at the half and Lyle/Pacelli's slow start stunted its opportunity for that elusive first win.
"We got started playing later than we wanted to as far as playing to our potential, and as a result we came up short again," said L/P coach Gary Erlandson. "We just didn't challenge the whole ballgame."
Lyle/Pacelli outscored the Cougars 19-15 in the fourth quarter, but the late charge was not enough.
Nels Nelson hit a pair of three-pointers en route to leading his team with 12 points. Nick Ehret added 10 and Mark Van Winter chipped in nine.
Nathan Pastwa led Mabel-Canton to its first SEC win (2-4, 1-2) with 17 points. Jason Krivacheck added 12 for the Cougars.
Lyle/Pacelli does not play again until after the holiday break when the team hosts LeRoy-Ostrander (6-0) at Lyle on Jan. 7.
