Blooming Prairie made the most out of its limited opportunities and made host United South Central its first Gopher/ Valley Conference victim.
The Blossom boys' basketball team shot 51 percent from the field and moved to 3-0 overall with a 58-43 victory over the Rebels at Wells Tuesday night. Lynn Chheang scored a career-high 16 points and Kraig Olson added a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds as BPHS started league play on the right foot.
"We got off to a fast start," said Blooming coach John Bruns. "We had a slow second quarter but we picked ourselves up. The boys did a good job of taking control in the second half."
Blooming Prairie led 15-6 after the first quarter and maintained a six-point lead entering the half. An 18-10 third quarter advantage pushed the Blossoms in front to stay.
"Lynn played his best offensive game of the year," Bruns said. "He did a great job the whole game."
The Blossoms collectively shot 19-37 from the floor, needing only two three-pointers.
Doug Wencl scored his seven points consecutively for a 7-0 run spanning the end of the third quarter and into the fourth. Blake Symes added seven points while David Kramer and Ryan Goette tallied six each.
The Blossoms have limited their opponents to 43 points in each of the first three games this season.
Blooming Prairie hosts Randolph in the Blossoms' conference home-opener Friday night at 7:30 p.m.
