The Austin City Planning Commission approved to amend a building conditional use permit to the Sacred Heart Care Center at Tuesday's meeting.
The facility, located at 1200 12th St. SW, plans to build a 28 x 64-foot addition to its current adult daycare building.
"We plan to use the space that we have more efficiently. The space we have right now is somewhat confining," said Bob Collier, board member of the Sacred Heart Hospice. The addition will add more room for chairs mobility and activities, Collier said.
The city staff recommended conditions to be applied upon approval of the permit including off-street parking compliance, signage, landscaping and similar exterior of the addition to the existing building.
"It is an addition that's needed and will be an asset to the community," board member Janet Anderson said.
The Minnesota Department of Military Affairs request to install two 1,000-gallon above-ground liquid petroleum storage tanks was approved. The fuel will provide a standby fuel source for the National Guard Armory. The conditions set within the approval include a letter from Austin Fire Chief Dan Wilson verifying the compliance with Minnesota's fire code
The plans of the proposal were publicized and Craig Hoium, Austin's community and development director, said no calls were received against the proposal. An underground tank will need to be removed from the site.
In other business the Downtown Historic Preservation District project will be revisited and an informational meeting will be set with the planning commission and downtown businesses. The meeting is meant to provide explanations on what the plan would do economically for the city.
