Austin's general consistency could not keep up with Mankato West's glimmers of excellence as the Packer girls' gymnastics team lost a Big Nine Conference dual Tuesday night in Hastings Gym in Austin.
The Packers' Whitney Johnson and Danielle Chapek placed 2-3 in the all-around competition, but West had the 3-7 competitors as well as the all-around winner. Kelsey Pudenz led the all-around with Johnson and Chapek close behind.
Austin's Kelly Longueville was eighth overall, followed by teammates Bethany Larson and Hayley Fisher.
"We had a solid meet, but we are not at our peak," said AHS first-year coach Billie Jo Wicks. "We're getting great leadership from our experienced gymnasts. We're working on our consistency and I'm happy with our progress."
Chapek placed second in the vault competition with a score of 8.5, while Hayley Astrup was fourth at 8.3 and Longueville was fifth at 8.25.
Johnson garnered second on the uneven parallel bars with an 8.0, while Larson came in fifth.
Chapek was Austin's only top-five finisher in the balance beam with a 6.825, while Larson tied Chapek for third in floor exercise. Johnson came in fifth.
The Packers go Saturday to the Blue Earth Invitational.
