Softball clinic available in December for 5-6 grade girls

There will be a softball clinic available to all interested fifth- and sixth-grade girls for three Thursdays during the month of December.

Austin High School softball coach Todd Waterbury and Riverland Community College softball coach Lisa Quednow-Bickler will be conducting the camp, which will run from 6:30-8 p.m. on Dec. 5, 12, and 19, at the Ellis Middle School gymnasiums.

Cost is $10 per person, and each participant will receive a T-shirt and softball. The clinic will focus on the basic softball fundamentals of hitting, fielding and pitching. Each person attending should have a glove, tennis shoes and proper gym wear.

Riverside on ice: Schedule for local arena's open skating

Here is the list of dates and times for open skating at Riverside Arena for the coming week:

Monday: 12-1:30 p.m.; Tuesday: 1:30-3 p.m.; Wednesday: 5-6:30 p.m.; Thursday: 2:30-4:30 p.m.; Friday: 4-5:30 p.m.

Austin Youth Summer Soccer accepting early registrations

The Austin Youth Summer Traveling Soccer team is taking early registrations for the spring and summer 2003 season.

All registrations before January 1, 2003, will result in a savings.

The preseason begins mid-April 2003 with the playing season starting in mid-May.

Registration forms are available at Games People Play and the Austin Parks, Recreation and Forestry Department.

Scholarships and other payment options are available through the Austin Youth Soccer Association.

Championship conference: Three Three Rivers teams win Prep Bowl

Three football teams from the Three Rivers Conference came away with state championship trophies Saturday at the Metrodome in Minneapolis with wins in the finals of the Prep Bowl.

Rushford-Peterson claimed the Class 1A trophy, Kingsland won the 2A title, and Plainview/Elgin-Millville took the 3A crown.

Correction: Trio of Packer seniors named as basketball co-captains

Austin High School seniors Amy Kelly, Steph Eslinger, and Caitlin Jurgensen will be the three captains for the Packer girls' basketball team and head coach Gary Peterson for the upcoming winter season.
