Residents made their votes count

With the razor-thin margin in our local

state senate race, plus numerous other tight contests, we're pleased to see that area voters turned out to exercise their democratic rights.

According to the secretary of state's office, approximately 80 percent of the county's voters cast their ballots.

The biggest case of making each vote count was proven in the state Senate District 27 race, which was decided between newly elected Sen. Dan Sparks and incumbent Grace Schwab. However, all may not be over, as the secretary of state's office automatically conducts a recount of elections that are decided by less than a half a percentage point. The Schwab-Sparks race was decided by one-tenth of a percentage point.

But the showing of this county's voters proves we truly live in a great democracy.
