Donald Lee Trenary, 92
Donald Lee Trenary, 92, of Austin died Thursday, Nov. 7, 2002 at Austin Medical Center.
He was born July 13, 1910 in Austin to Loren and Blanche (Barnitz) Trenary. He attended schools in Austin, graduating with honors from Austin High School in 1928.
He lettered in all sports and according to Don, he was an "athlete."
He attended the University of Minnesota, later returning to Austin, where he worked in the Hormel Plant for 43 years.
Don was a member of the Hormel Employees Credit Union Board of Directors.
Don was an avid reader and loved the outdoors. He enjoyed fly fishing, hunting and golf.
He began golfing at the Austin Country Club while in high school and over the years won many tournaments, including several Club championships.
His 1930 trophy is on display there.
Don attained the rank of Sergeant in the U.S. Army, serving from 1942 to 1945, with the 40th Engineers Combat Battalion, Co. H.
He fought in many major battles and campaigns of WWII.
He was awarded the Bronze Star. Over the years, he attended most of the 40th Engineers annual reunions.
A confirmed bachelor, Don married Evelyn (Peterson) Chaffee, on December 10, 1960.
Evelyn died in 1991. He lived in his home until he became ill on October 26, 2002 and entered the hospital.
He was survived by son and daughter-in-law Richard D. and Colette Chaffee of Austin, Grandson and wife Rodney and Jenny Chaffee of Fargo, N.D., Great Grandson Wyatte Chaffee of Fargo, N.D., Sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Dolores and Keith Judd of Austin, Marion Peterson of Palm Bay, Fla., nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his wife, sister, Evelyn, (Mrs. O. P.) Dalager and an infant brother.
Funeral services will be held Monday, November 11, 2002 at 1:30 P.M. at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary with The Reverend Ronald Barnett officiating. Interment will be in the Oakwood Cemetery in Austin with Austin Post #91 American Legion and Olaf B. Damm Post #l216 VFW in charge of military rites. Friends may call at the Clasen-Jordan Mortuary from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday and for one hour before the service on Monday. The family prefers memorials to the donor’s choice.
Casket Bearers will be Rodney Chaffee, James Judd, Thomas Dunlap, Douglas Evans, Jason Evans and Daniel Evans.
Stephen P. Hoevet, 60
Stephen P. Hoevet, 60 of Stacyville, Iowa, died Nov. 4, 2002 at UC Davis Hospital in Sacramento, Calif.
He was born September 26, 1942 in Fairmont to Elmer and Ruth (Fulcomer) Hoevet.
He married Martha Retterath on October 15, 1982 in McIntire, Iowa.
A lifelong resident of Southern Minnesota and Northern Iowa, he was employed by Hormel Foods Research and Development where he received many achievement awards.
Steve enjoyed hunting bear and deer, spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, and playing with his cat, Mopsie.
Survivors include his wife Martha Hoevet, Stacyville, Iowa; daughters Kristina (William) Wolfe, Baltimore, Maryland, Rebecca Hoevet, Antelope, Calif., Vickie (James) Krahenbuhl, Mason City, Wanda (Phillip) Mueller, Osage, Iowa; sons Robert Hoevet, San Diego, Calif., Rick (Amy) Storlie, Osage, Iowa; six grandchildren; relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his mother and father-in-law.
Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m., Sunday, November 10, 2002, at the funeral home and at the church one hour prior to the service on Monday.
Service: 10:30 a.m., Monday, at St. Edward's Catholic Church with the Rev. William Glaser officiating.
Interment: Grandview Cemetery, Austin.

John "Jack" Colin Rowe, 56
John "Jack" Colin Rowe, 56, of LeRoy died Thursday at his residence.
He was born April 20, 1946 at St. Olaf Hospital in Austin to Edgar &uot;Choke&uot; and Helen (Reagen) Rowe. He was baptized at Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Austin. He married Linda Halling in 1966 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in LeRoy. They were later divorced.
He remarried Anita Noske Winfield on August 22, 1987 in Rochester. Jack worked for the family concrete business until 1992. He loved Sunday drives on his motorcycle and spending time with family and friends.
He is survived by his wife Anita, LeRoy; daughter Jodi (Glenn) Lonergan, Dexter; sons Jeremy (Waneda) Rowe, Dexter, John (Jessica) Rowe, Onalaska, Wis.; daughter Penny (Scott) Greeley, Lime Springs; step-sons Toby (Laurlae) Winfield, LeRoy, Cory (Robin Krause) Winfield, LeRoy; 7 grandchildren; brothers Joe (Sherri) Rowe, Chester, Iowa, Scott (Chris) Rowe of LeRoy.
He was preceded in death by his parents.

Arnold C. Dahl, 89
Arnold C. Dahl, 89, of Wabasha, formerly of Austin died Friday, November 8, 2002, at the St. Elizabeth Health Care Center in Wabasha.
He was born September 9, 1913, in Austin, the son of Alfred and Caroline (Bendickson) Dahl.
He attended school in Austin.
On July 7, 1934, he married Emma Belle Yauger in Northwood, Iowa.
He was employed by the Geo. A. Hormel Company for forty-five years, retiring in 1975.
In 1975, he moved to Wabasha.
He enjoyed spending time with family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren while entertaining them at their home on the Mississippi River near Wabasha.
He was a member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church.
Survivors include sons Richard C. (Pat) Dahl, Wabasha, Dale C. (Mary Jo) Dahl, Cass Lake; daughter Beverly (Joseph) Carlisano, Burnsville; fourteen grandchildren; twenty-two great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Emma Belle, two sisters and one brother.
Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m., Monday, Nov. 11, 2002, at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday.

Erwin C. Andresen, 78
Erwin C. Andresen, 78, of Albert Lea, died Nov. 7, 2002, at Albert Lea Medical Center in Albert Lea.
He was born on October 23, 1934 in Murray County to Einar and Oliva (Pedersen) Andresen.
He was Baptized in the Lutheran Faith at Ellsboro Lutheran Church and was later confirmed at First Lutheran Church in Albert Lea.
He graduated from Albert Lea High School in 1952.
He graduated from Luther College, Decorah, Iowa, in 1956 and received a Master’s Degree in Education from Mankato State University in the early 1970s. He married Nancee Larson on December 8, 1956 at Zion Lutheran Church in Rake, Iowa. They had seven children together.
He was a community member, lifelong educator, soloist, handyman and willing listener.
Survivors include his wife Nancee, son Philip (Doris) Andresen, Forst, Germany; daughters Elizabeth Andresen, Austin, Ruth (Bruce) Stadheim, Albert Lea, Katheryn (Jim) Andresen, Eagan, Maria (Todd) King, Mankato, Diane (Dwayne) Groth, Albert Lea, Jennifer (Kurt) Knudtson, Albert Lea; 16 grandchildren; brother Merle (Darlene) Andresen; sisters Clarine (Floyd) Wallace, Bethlyn (David) Dreamer, Thelma (Chuck) Niebuhr; mother-in-law Joyce Larson, Rake, Iowa; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, father-in-law and brother-in-law.

Muriel Ruth Hurdlik, 94
Muriel "Murlie" Ruth Hurdlik, 94, of Blooming Prairie died Thursday, Nov. 7, 2002.
She was born in Blooming Prairie on Nov. 4, 1918 to Tom and Grace (Plummer) Gorvin. Like her four brothers and sisters, Murlie was born at home with neighbor ladies assisting.
She graduated from Blooming Prairie High School in 1936. While attending high school, Murlie worked as a waitress at Thompson’s cafe on Main Street in Blooming Prairie where she met her future husband, Vic.
She married Victor F. Hurdlik on March 25, 1939.
Shortly after they were married Vic went off to serve in WWII.
She moved in with her husband’s family in the outskirts of Owatonna, where they had a large farmhouse with a barn and cow.
After returning from the service, Vic got a job with the post office and the couple returned to Blooming Prairie in 1953.
Murlie managed their household like a machine. Not only did she iron sheets and underwear, she ironed her money to make sure it was as crisp as her sheets.
Over the years they traveled to many destinations including Europe, the Caribbean, France, Holland, Italy, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.
Vic died in 1969 and Murlie was left to raise their 13-year-old daughter Paulette alone.
She took a job as the first Activity Director at Prairie Manor Nursing home, a position she retired from in 1983.
She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, VFW Auxiliary, CCW of St. Columbanus Catholic Church and Past President of the American Legion Auxiliary.
She served as Activity Director of Prairie Manor Nursing home for 10 years. She was known as an independent thinker and jokingly referred to herself as a stubborn Norwegian.
A life-long democrat, she was also known for her blunt analysis of politics and finely tuned sense of humor.
Sometimes outspoken, she never shied from stating her opinion. Compassionate and fiercely loyal, she enjoyed many strong friendships in her life as well as the devotion of her immediate and extended family.
She is survived by son Dale (Linda) Hurdlik, Indianapolis, Ind.; daughter Paulette (Keith) Hurdlik-Hardie, New Orleans, La.; granddaughter Angela Hurdlik, Muncie, Ind.
She was preceded in death by her husband Victor, daughter Karole, sisters Eleonore Muyskens and Hazel Espeland, and brothers Glen and Lloyd Gorvin.
Visitation: 4 to 6 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 10, 2002, at the funeral home and for one hour prior to the service at the church.
Service: 10:30 a.m., Monday, at St. Columbanus Catholic Church with Father Doug Gits officiating.
Interment: Blooming Prairie Cemetery, Blooming Prairie.
