Blooming Prairie got Glenville-Emmons' best game when the Blossoms' lead got to double-digits, but the host Wolverines could not get over the top.
The BPHS girls' basketball team got its first win of the early season, 45-37, in a non-conference contest Tuesday night in Glenville. Blooming Prairie led by as many as 13 during the game, but Glenville-Emmons responded with a long-range barrage of buckets.
"At times we had an 11, 12, even 13 point lead, but when they started playing with some urgency it was really beneficial to them," BP coach John Worke said.
The Wolverines eliminated Blooming's 12-point lead in the fourth quarter to tie the score at 37-all with three minutes to play, but the Blossoms scored the game's final eight points to seal the win.
"It was nice to finish with the last eight points of the game," Worke added.
Kari Lueth hit 1-of-2 free throws and 5-4 guard Steph Njos hit a post-up bucket for a three-point Blooming lead. The Blossom defense, which held Glenville-Emmons to only one point in the first quarter, came up with enough stops down the stretch to keep the lead through the final buzzer.
Calla Swenson scored 11 points to lead Blooming Prairie, hitting the team's only three-pointer for the second game in a row. Lueth, who added seven points, led all players with 10 rebounds. BPHS had a 33-22 advantage on the glass.
Angela Noble netted eight more points for the Blossoms and Lisi Ingvalson chipped in seven points, eight rebounds, four assists and three steals. Nine different players scored for Blooming (1-1), who opens Gopher/Valley Conference play Thursday, Dec. 5, at Alden-Conger.
Jenna Brackey led the host Wolverines in their season-opener with 12 points, and Katie Brackey added 10.
