The public is invited to attend Virgil's Wedding tonight and Saturday night. The rehearsal dinner, reception and dance will all take place in the St. Ansgar Elementary auditorium.
The "wedding" is actually a play put on by St. Ansgar High School students called "Virgil's Wedding." But the audience will get the full experience of a wedding set in Lickskillet, Iowa.
"Virgil's Wedding" is about Margaret and Virgil's attempt to get married with the help of a wedding planner from Chicago, said director Dee Stelpflug, who also teaches middle school art and high school English.
The audience is involved from the start. Refreshments will be served before the play at the "rehearsal dinner." Everyone is invited to stay after the play for the "wedding dance."
"That is quite a unique thing for a production," Stelpflug said.
Thirty-five students in grades nine through 12 have put the production together as actors, set designers and crew members.
"We're very excited about it," Stelpflug said. She and Judge Brian McKinley have co-directed the play.
The play opens at 7:30 p.m. Friday and will be performed again at 7:30 p.m. Saturday. The theater has a capacity for 300 and already 200 tickets have been sold for each night. Tickets can be purchased at St. Ansgar State Bank, the high school or at the door. Tickets for adults are $4 and $2 for students.
