Quick police work
A homeowner interrupted a burglary and Austin police caught the man believed to be responsible for the illegal entry.
Richard Chinander, 54 of Austin, called the Austin Police Department at 12:21 p.m. Friday.
According to the police report, Chinander told police his home had been illegally entered and he had seen the burglar, who fled the scene.
Officers went to the Chinander residence in the 1500 block of 3rd Avenue Northwest. Enroute to the scene, one of the officers observed a man matching the description given by the burglary victim in the 1100 block of 4th Avenue Northwest. The man gave police the name "Dale," but had no identification. He told police he was on his way to visit a girlfriend.
The victim of the burglary said he and his wife were asleep in their bed at the time of the break-in. When the man went to investigate, he saw a male subject standing near a door. The man fled when the homeowner appeared.
When the victim was asked to identify the subject taken into custody, the report said he positively identified the subject as the man inside his house by a broken side door.
The subject, a 22-year old-male, who lives in the 1800 block of East Oakland Avenue was taken to the Mower County Jail and held for a court appearance today.
File trespass charge
Another subject has been charged with criminal trespass at Bremerton Townhomes in west Austin.
Owners and managers of the multi-family housing complex are attempting to crack-down on crime and misconduct at the west Austin housing development.
Austin police department officers were called to Bremerton Townhomes Saturday to charge a man with criminal trespass after the manager, Becky Peters, agreed to file a complaint.
Residents of the complex have also formed a Neighborhood Watch Program unit to help patrol the housing complex.
In addition, the owners have hired private security officers to patrol the premises.
The latest criminal trespass charge was the third filed in the last two weeks at Bremerton Townhomes.
