School moving toward future

It truly was a community effort.
People scurrying about, moving cabinets through purple-lined doorways. Those wearing thick, cloth gloves helped ease cabinets and boxes through tight spaces.
But it wasn't just another moving day in Grand Meadow.
Specifically, it was part of an ongoing project this week transferring equipment from the old school to the new five-domed purple-striped complex on the city's east side.
Tuesday's move occurred while school was out of session.
Many were trying to get things accomplished before next Monday, when students are anticipated to move into the complex and begin classes.
One person involved in the move included junior high English teacher Rich Lantz, who was figuring out where boxes should go, what books should go where and how the desks should be arranged.
Naturally, he was excited about the prospect of beginning classes in a new facility in a few short days.
But it wouldn't have occurred without everyone's help.
"The kids helped me last week. Some of the kids helped an awful lot, especially the seventh, eighth and ninth graders," he said.
Lantz, who noted everyone's attitude also seems to be on the same page, didn't hesitate his reply when asked a commonality with everyone involved in the move.
"Just everybody helping each other," he said. "The staff working together, the kids, the volunteers. They're like, 'what's next, what can I do next?' No one's standing around."
Even flatbed and tractor trailers were seen pulling up to the school's doors, helping make the move that much easier for everybody involved.
"Everybody's been working," Lantz said. "It's been great. The cooperation has been with everybody. It's been fantastic."
