Lyle/Pacelli had its girls' tennis team's season ended Tuesday night by Winona Cotter, 6-1, in the first round of Section 1A action at Winona.
L/P's lone win came from Sammi Jones at No. 2 singles. Jones won the marathon match 7-6, 7-6, over Cotter's Lindsey Blank.
"There was not a lot of power in the match, they just both seemed to keep the ball in play," said L/P coach Suzy Hebrink. "There were a lot of long rallies. Sammi played well, she played consistent."
Jones' win highlighted the loss that dropped Lyle/Pacelli's team record to 1-11 for the season. L/P, the seventh seed, was eliminated from the postseason by second-seeded Cotter.
"Aside from playing a really good team we were really rusty," Coach Hebrink said. "It took us a while to get going and that was maybe too late in a lot of the spots."
L/P will compete in individual sections starting Friday at Kutzky Park in Rochester. Anna Hebrink and Jones will play the top two singles positions. Laura Christopherson and Livja Burke will pair up at No. 1 doubles, while Gretchen Hebrink and Brittany Hoban will team together at No. 2 doubles.
Friday's play begins at 9 a.m. for all players.
