Being complacent usually isn't a good thing, especially when it comes to having a community that wants to grow and thrive.

That's why it's encouraging to see the results of a recent survey conducted by the Austin Area Chamber of Commerce.

The overwhelming majority of chamber members who returned the survey said bringing more businesses to this area is the key. Just as important, however, was helping current business grow and expand.

That can sometimes be just as -- if not more -- important than bringing new jobs here.

Current businesses provide the foundation and jobs that have kept this community running. Helping those businesses expand isn't only just good for community relations, it makes good business sense.

We encourage local city and county leaders to continue keeping economic development a high priority here.
