Triton jumped out to a 28-0 lead and kept Hayfield's winless streak going with a 47-7 Hiawatha Valley League Gold Division win Friday night in Hayfield.
The host Vikings matched Triton in offensive yardage at 312, but the Cobras converted a pair of long runs early in the lopsided victory. Triton's Tyler Paulson rushed for 119 of the Cobras' 230 yards.
"We stuffed their inside (running) plays, but we had trouble stopping them on the outside," said Hayfield coach Vince Reynolds.
The Vikings dropped to 0-4 overall and 0-1 with their divisional opener. Hayfield also lost starting fullback Blake Swanson to a broken left ankle that will require surgery. Swanson carried 14 times for 69 yards before leaving the game. James O'Connor led the way with 19 carries for 73 yards and Hayfield's only touchdown.
Triton's Britton Wolf ran and threw for a touchdown as the Cobras moved to 2-2 overall. Hayfield visits Byron next week. The Bears are the only 4-0 team in the Gold Division.
Vikings quarterback Scott Thompson was 6-for-15 for 11 yards. O'Connor had the longest catch -- a 40 yarder -- on a reverse flea-flicker. Jon Amick had one catch for 36 yards, and Cody Hegna made two grabs for 22 yards.
