The Riverland women’s volleyball team took revenge on Rochester from a Friday night loss and turned it around to take first place at the Anoka-Ramsey Tournament Saturday.
The Blue Devils went 4-0, including a 2-1 win over rival Rochester to claim first place. Neither team had lost heading into the day’s final match, and Riverland’s 30-20, 21-30, 15-7 victory earned them the team title.
&uot;It was nice to beat Rochester after losing to them Friday night,&uot; said Devils coach Helen Jahr.
The Yellowjackets took a 3-1 win in Friday’s Minnesota Community College Conference Southern Division match in Rochester.
On Saturday, Riverland netted wins over Marshalltown, Bethel, and Anoka-Ramsey to go 3-0 into the rematch with Rochester.
Aubree Page led the Devils with 32 kills and 15 blocks in the tournament. She was 28-of-29 from the service line and added 26 digs. Kari Wobschall added 26 kills, five blocks and three aces, and Becky Herrmann tallied 26 kills, seven aces and 28 digs.
Stephanie Vollbrecht was busy in the back row, making a team-leading 49 digs.
"The passing was the best I’ve ever seen it on any team that I’ve ever had, she did a super job," Jahr said. "That’s the reason we were so successful on Saturday I think."
Steph Benson dished out 48 set assists and Ellie Ramseth distributed 44.
Riverland (7-8, 0-2) hosts Anoka-Ramsey Wednesday and Ridgewater on Friday. Both matches start at 6:30 p.m.
