Alvina M. Barlow, 87

Alvina M. Barlow, age 87, died peacefully on Sept. 19, 2002, in Ambassador Good Samaritan Center, New Hope, Minn.

She was born Dec. 6, 1914, in Stacyville, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by husbands, Fred Buntrock Sr., Walter Kara, Byron Barlow; son, Fred Buntrock Jr.; grandson, Wade Buntrock.

She is survived by grandchildren, Dean (Tami) Buntrock and Eric, Cory and Demi; Glen Buntrock; Karla (Jeff) Shafer and Kaitlyn and Hailey; step-children, Sarah (Roger) Kivela and Hannah; Bonnie Barlow; Deborah (Gary) Bertolin; Douglas (Barbara) Barlow; Steven Barlow.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, Sept. 27, 2002, at 11 a.m. at St. Peter's Lutheran Cemetery, Toeterville, Iowa.

Russell M. Stromsodt, 82

Russell Martel Stromsodt, 82, of Austin, died Sept. 21, 2002, at Prairie Manor in Blooming Prairie.

He was born Dec. 9, 1919, in Charles City, Iowa, to Ingvald N. and Ida M. (Iverson) Stromsodt.

He joined the Army in October 1941, serving during World War II. He was discharged in October 1945 as a Private First Class. Employed by Geo. A. Hormel & Company for 36 years, he retired on Oct. 25, 1975.

He lived at the Cedars of Austin until June 28, 2002, when he moved to Prairie Manor Nursing Home in Blooming Prairie.

He belonged to the Church of Christ, VFW, American Legion and Disabled American Veterans.

Service: 11 a.m. graveside service, Thursday, Sept. 26, 2002, at Grandview Cemetery with the Rev. David DeFor officiating. Military rites will be by American Legion Post 91.

Earl I. Nagele, 78

Earl Irwin Nagele, 78, of LeRoy, died Monday, Sept. 23, 2002, at Harmony Healthcare.

He was born April 24, 1924, in Lodi Township, where he grew up and attended country school.

On Aug. 14, 1949, he married Shirley I. Spencer at St. Olaf Lutheran Parsonage in Austin.

Earl farmed with his brother until 1987.

He moved to Harmony Healthcare on Nov. 27, 2001.

He enjoyed farming, family and traveling.

Survivors include wife, Shirley; daughter, Deborah (Dennis) Rice; son, Michael (Pamela), LeRoy; daughter, Michele (RJ) Werner, Grand Meadow; eight grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; one great-grandson; brothers, Ernest (Edith) Nagele, LeRoy; Arnel (Madonna) Nagele, Taopi; sister-in-law, Rachel, LeRoy.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Roy.

Visitation: 5 to 8 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 26, 2002, at the funeral home.

Service: 10:30 a.m., Friday, Sept. 27, 2002, at the LeRoy Lutheran Church in LeRoy with the Revs. J.K. Nagele and Thomas Kolden officiating.

Interment: LeRoy Lutheran Cemetery.

David N. Dickson, 59

David N. Dickson, age 59, of Austin, died Monday, Sept. 23, 2002, at his home.

David was born March 5, 1943, in Kansas City, Mo. to Bert L. and Mary E. (Falstrom) Dickson.

David earned his BA and MBA degrees from Stanford University where, as an undergraduate, he also competed in inter-collegiate athletics as a member of the Indians' freshman and varsity baseball teams.

He was united in marriage to Joanne Lindsey on Sept. 11, 1965, and thereafter returned to South Pasadena to raise their own family. Their son, Jeffrey ('86), was a member of SPHS's first CIF championship water polo team, and their daughter, Cheryl, graduated from SPHS in 1988.

After completing his education, David joined the Carnation Company where he became and executive vice president and a member of its board of directors. Joanne was an active volunteer in such organizations as the Pasadena Boys Choir, South Pasadena Chamber of Commerce, South Pasadena Little League, and SPEF, and she was instrumental in bringing the anti-drug program "Parent Alert" to South Pasadena. In 1989, David and Joanne moved to Austin, Minn., where David took a position with Hormel Foods, Inc. as group vice president (International, Strategic Planning, and Hormel Health Labs). After nearly 12 years and extensive travel throughout the Far East and Europe, David retired from Hormel in June, 2001.

Survivors include his wife: Joanne Dickson, Austin; son and daughter-in-law: Jeff and Gail Oickson, Glen’ Elyn, IL; dallghter and son-in~law: Cassandra and Mike Staidahar, Lincoln, NE; two grandchildren: Garrett and Paige Dickson; sister and brother-in-law: Nancy and Jim Chamberlain, Fallbrook, CA.
