Finally.
That is the sentiment shared by members of the Lyle/Pacelli girls' tennis team that on Monday won its first dual of the season. L/P hosted Shattuck-St. Mary's of Faribault to a 6-1 decision at the Austin Country Club, ending a 10-match losing streak.
Lyle/Pacelli (1-10) won all four singles matches and two of three doubles bouts to earn the first team victory of the season. Anna Hebrink moved her individual record to 9-2 this season with a win at No. 1 singles, while Sammi Jones upped her overall mark to 8-3 with a 6-0, 6-0 decision at No. 2 singles.
Laura Christopherson picked up her first singles triumph of the year, netting a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 3 singles, and Livja Burke added a 6-0, 6-0 rout at No. 4 singles.
"We got solid singles, they're all playing well," said L/P coach Suzy Hebrink. "Anna and Sammi have certainly led us real strong in the singles department. Seeing our doubles picking up the wins is exciting here as we roll into our last two matches."
Three other members of the Lyle/Pacelli team earned their first varsity victories. Jenny Fisher teamed with Gretchen Hebrink for a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 1 doubles. The win was Fisher's first.
Sarah Larson and Brittany Hovey also earned their first wins in a comeback victory at No. 2 doubles. The duo defeated Lauren Frankenfield and Laura Trout, 7-6 (9-7), 6-4, after trailing 5-2 in the first set.
The lone Shattuck-St. Mary's win came at No. 3 doubles, where Kyung Jin Park and Aiko Nagashima defeated Lizzy Gunter and Marta Burke, 6-2, 6-1.
Lyle/Pacelli has two regular-season matches remaining. The team travels to Martin County West today for a 4:30 p.m. match not on the original schedule. L/P ends the season on the road at Shattuck-St. Mary's on Friday, Oct. 4.
