The Blossoms answered the disappointing loss from last week by chewing up a total of 405 yards in an important Gopher Valley Conference win, 32-12, Friday night at Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop.
"This was a game that can really worry a coach," said Blooming Prairie head coach Chad Gimbel. "This was a very scary game that was sandwiched between two tough opponents, but the players' attitudes remained positive and it showed on the field."
The host Thunderbirds, who were one game back of the Blossoms in the conference standings coming into the game, were limited to 254 total yards in a home friendly environment.
Blossom quarterback Kraig Olson, who went 21-of-46 for 378 yards, connected with receiver Blake Symes for touchdowns of 9, 30 and 9 yards.
Jay Salinas ran for two touchdowns, coming from 13- and 1-yard distances
Defensive end Jon Peterson had three sacks, caused two fumbles, and recovered one loose ball.
"This was one of our best games this year. Our defense took over the game when our offense was sputtering in the first half and gave them time to adjust to the field conditions," Coach Gimbel added.
The Blossoms will celebrate homecoming next Friday as they host conference rival Waterville-Elysian-Morristown. The traditional powerhouse Buccaneers are a surprising 3-2 overall and in Gopher Valley play.
