Bears batter Hayfield

Byron broke out to a 29-0 first-quarter lead and finished off Hayfield 43-6 in Hiawatha Valley League Blue Division action Friday night in Byron.

The Bears bolstered their offensive statistics with 458 yards through a balanced attack. Byron rushed for 215 yards and threw for 243.

Bryce Fogelson led the Bears (5-0, 2-0) with 9-of-11 passing for all 243 yards. Shawn Campion made touchdown receptions of 70 and 25 yards in the first quarter, and Adam Schroeder scored three consecutive touchdowns as the Bears bruised their way to a 43-0 lead through three quarters.

Hayfield (0-5, 0-2) was led by James O'Connor, who rushed for 67 yards and the Vikings' only touchdown. Scott Thompson threw for 167 yards, completing 8-of-15 attempts. Cody Hegna made seven of eight receptions, racking up 167 yards.

Hayfield will host Winona Cotter next Friday in a homecoming match-up for the Vikings.
