Ivan Esquivel's trio of goals got the Austin boys' soccer team its second consecutive victory with a 6-1 Big Nine Conference triumph Tuesday night at Mankato East.
Esquivel ran his season goal total to seven in five games for the Packers (2-3, 1-2), who return home for a conference rematch with rival Owatonna tonight at 7 p.m. The Huskies took a 4-2 win over Austin in the season-opener for the Packers Aug. 22 in Owatonna.
AHS has scored 11 goals in its last two games combined, headed by Tuesday's 6-1 win. Esquivel rallied the offense with his three goals.
"We played a very strong game," said AHS coach Sam Kolas. "The defense played very strong, Den Pham stood out on defense. Dennis Christenson also had a very strong game at forward even though it didn't show up on the scorebook."
Three Packers scored single goals to get Austin to six. Rigoberto Sanchez scored his first goal of the season. Seth Arnold and Edgar Vargas each tallied their second goals.
"We played very well," Coach Kolas added. "We're getting on a roll and we're starting to play well."
