For the past eight years Chuck Warrington, of St. Ansgar, Iowa has been a volunteer for KSMQ Public Television. He was appreciated by the staff with cake and gifts on Friday Sept. 13. He began volunteering when the director of development at that time, Mary Wilder asked him if he would help with some mailings.
"I've been here ever since," said Warrington.
Jude Andrews, the manager of KSMQ said, "We wouldn't know what to do without Chuck. He does everything. We appreciate what he does here."
Warrington has his own desk and his own name on the sign in board. He was stunned by the surprise reception held for him.
"I'm keeping everyone from working. I don't know what to say," said Warrington as everyone helped themselves to
punch and cake in his honor.
The staff couldn't stop with the accolades to him. Warrington seldom says he can't do anything. He runs errands, gives staff rides. and writes lots of thank you cards to patrons of KSMQ.
He helps with the annual auction each fall and with hauling the many donated items.
A retired farmer, Warrington has been married to Dixie for 55 years. They raised seven children and have twenty grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Their family farm was recognized at the Iowa State Fair as a century farm this past summer.
The Warringtons keep busy in their retirement with Dixie working at the St. Ansgar nursing home and Chuck volunteering at KSMQ.
Warrington turns 80 Oct. 30 and he said, "It keeps me young working here. I have met so many people. They come and go. I cannot say that not one person hasn't been fun to be with here. It is just good fun."
