Woman finds burglars in home Monday night

GRAND MEADOW -- Rebecca Oehlke arrived home early Monday evening and discovered a burglary in progress.

According to a Mower County Sheriff's Department report, Oehlke arrived home near 6:30 p.m. Monday and say three subjects loading items into a bright red pickup truck.

When the subjects saw Oehlke, they jumped into the vehicle and sped off quickly.

Oehlke told investigators she is missing many items, including television, DVD player, cordless telephone, camera, jewelry and other items.

The victim of the house burglary described the suspects as a "chubby blonde woman and a tall, slender male, both in their early 20s, and a teenage male."

According to the Mower County Sheriff's Department report, the rural Grand Meadow burglary may be tied into a similar daytime house burglary in neighboring Fillmore County.

Anyone seeing a vehicle and the subjects matching the descriptions is asked to contact the Mower County Sheriff's Department immediately (437-9400).

4-wheeler, cycle collide

LONDON -- Gregory Roger Read, 22, rural Lyle, escaped serious injury after his 4-wheeler was rear ended by a motorcycle.

The mishap occurred near 6:45 p.m. Sunday, according to a Mower County Sheriff's Department report.

Read was traveling along Mower County No. 5 about one-half mile from the Freeborn County line, when he attempted to turn into a farm drive.

A motorcycle ridden by John K. Schmidt, of Mason City, Iowa, struck Read's 4-wheeler from the rear.
