As the school year approaches, parents are thinking about the vaccinations their children will need.
To help parents out, public health is holding an Immunization Week Monday through Aug. 23 at the Mower County Public Health Office.
"We continue to educate the public about vaccine-preventable diseases," said Margene Gunderson of public health.
Public Health hosts vaccination clinics from 3:15 to 4:45 p.m. every Friday, but will be hosting two extra clinics next week:
n 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., Monday
n 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., Aug. 23
Public Health will also hold the clinic at its regular time Friday, Aug. 23, and Grimace from McDonald's will be there to entertain children and parents and pass out treats.
"He's a big hit," Gunderson said. "He's even a big hit with the adults."
McDonald's has supported the vaccination program and has put information about the week on its tray placemats, Gunderson said.
"They've always been very, very willing to support the child vaccination program."
Public health host an annual clinic like this around the time children are heading back to school so that parents can vaccinate their children and meet state requirements, she said.
"We take (vaccine-preventable diseases) for granted because we don't really see them," Gunderson said.
