revised July 1, 2002
We have recently discussed and modified our obituary guidelines to further
meet your needs. The new guidelines will be effective July 1, 2002.
If you have have any questions, please contact the News Clerk, Jaime Braun, at (507) 434-2236 or via e-mail at :mailto:jaime.braun@austindailyherald.com, or Managing Editor, Dan Fields, at (507) 434-2230 or :dan.fields@austindailyherald.com.
Options
We will continue to offer the three notice options to the funeral homes: Funeral notice, survivor notice and full obituary. Also, we have developed a new option, the expanded obituary. (See information under &uot;Fees.&uot;) There will, however, be slight changes in the way these notices are to appear. These changes will include:
a.) The age of the deceased will now be listed on funeral and survivor notices as well as on full obituaries.
b.) Addresses may be listed for funeral homes and churches.
c.) Memorial information will be omitted from funeral notices, but will remain available on any paid notice.
d.) We will now allow when and where the person died on any paid notice including the survivor notice.
e.) The format for pending notices will change.
Fees
The funeral notice is free of charge and runs once. The survivor notice will cost of $9 each time it is run. A standard obituary, up to 10 column inches in length, will cost $17 each time it is published and will be changed to conform to our obituary guidelines, if necessary. We have added a new option, which is the expanded obituary. This option has few restrictions on what is published. An expanded obituary will cost $35 and be limited to 15 column inches in length. All notices coming from a private party need to be prepaid.
Deadlines
All notices must be received by the Herald’s newsroom by 9:30 a.m. Monday through Friday and by 3 p.m. on Saturday for the Sunday publication. Local funeral homes will be contacted each day by a member of the staff to determine the status of the funeral notices.
