Greyhounds aced at Red Wing Tournament

The tournament-host Red Wing Aces handed the Austin Greyhounds a 5-3 defeat in the consolation finals of the Red Wing Tournament Sunday.
The Aces scored twice in the top of the 11th inning on a two-run double by Paul Hartman, his second double of the game.
The Class B Greyhounds go to Shakopee tonight before returning to Red Wing Friday for a rematch with the Aces. Austin is 17-6 so far this season.
Merchants blanked by former Legion pitcher
Former Austin Legion baseball player and Riverland student Craig Smith struck out 14 in eight-plus innings in a no-hit victory for Albert Lea over the Class C Austin Merchants, 3-2, Sunday night at Hayek Field in Albert Lea.
Austin graduate and Riverland
second-year man Clint Ripley struck out six for the Merchants.
Austin was scheduled to play host to Dodge Center Monday night, but no score was reported.
The Merchants travel to Lake City tonight for a Twin Rivers League game, and play Wednesday night in the first round of the Cannon Falls Tournament.
Austin is back at home Thursday night in a 7:30 p.m. game against the Rochester Roadrunners, also a league contest.
