Adams City Council member and Lanesboro Police Lt. Michael Cherney has announced he will run for Mower County Sheriff.
Sarah Douty, also an Adams City Council member, has been helping him with public relations and sent out a release Tuesday announcing his candidacy.
Up until now only Terese Amazi, chief deputy for the Mower County Sheriff's office, has announced she will run for Sheriff. Wednesday was the first she had heard Cherney was officially running.
"Obviously I anticipate people announcing and being that it's this close to filing, it's to be expected," said Amazi, who has worked for Mower County for more than 14 years. "I'm sure it probably won't be the last."
Cherney has worked in law enforcement for more than 20 years with positions in communications, corrections, investigations and administration. He will hold a press conference 2 p.m. Thursday at the Southland High School Media Center in Adams to discuss his qualifications and goals.
