Winona tennis sweeps Austin
Winona, the top boys' tennis team in the Big Nine Conference, captured a 7-0 victory over Austin Thursday night in Winona.
The Packers won a total of six games in the singles' matches, while the No. 1 doubles team of Mike Cavanaugh and Tucker Schieck netted five games in their two-set loss. Mike Marsh and Nate Pattee took the 7-5, 6-0 win from Austin to highlight the Packers' defeat.
"It was a closer match than the score sounded," Coach Matt Cavanaugh said. "Mike and Tucker played pretty tough in the first set, they just kind of got into a funk in the second set and they lost theire composure. But they still looked good in the first set."
Austin's next scheduled match is Saturday against Rochester Lourdes at the Rochester Athletic Club's Outdoor Courts at 9 a.m.
