Margaret Jeanette Johnson, 86

Margaret Jeanette Johnson, 86, of Austin died Saturday, April 6, 2002, at the Austin Medical Center. She was born March 9, 1916, in Belview, to Jens Simon and Mina (Flom) Gunelson.

She grew up in Belview and graduated from Belview High School. During and after her attendance at the University of Minnesota Margaret worked as a 4-H county extension agent in several Minnesota counties.

On March 29, 1942, she married Lowell A. F. Johnson in Belview. They made their home in Minneapolis before they moved to California. They returned to Minnesota in 1944, settling in St. Louis Park. They moved to St. Cloud and later to Burma where Lowell helped establish a school for Dunwoody Institute. They returned to Wayzata, where Margaret worked at several mail order businesses, including Bookmen, Fabric Warehouse and J.C. Penney before moving to Austin in 1974. She was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, the Art and Travel Club and the League of Women Voters. Lowell died on March 25, 1996.

In December 1997, Margaret suffered a stroke and entered St. Mark's Lutheran Home.

Survivors include children, Linda Johnson, Owatonna; Kenric (Linda) Johnson, Sheridan, Wyo.; Blair Johnson, Plymouth; three grandchildren; sister-in-law, Adelaide Gunelson, Hibbing; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers, Otto, Adolph and Walter Gunelson; sister, Sarah Smith.

Visitation: 5 to 8 p.m., Friday,

April 12, 2002, at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.

Service: 10 a.m., Saturday, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church with the Rev. Glenn Monson officiating.

Interment: 3 p.m., Saturday, at the Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery, Cokato.
