Magdalena M. Wolthoff, 88

Magdalena M. Wolthoff, 88, formerly of LeRoy, died Friday, April 19, 2002, at the Adams Health Care Center, Adams, where she had resided for a short time.

She was born July 27, 1913, to Michael Jax and Elizabeth Ulwelling Jax in Johnsburg.

She attended the Johnsburg Catholic School through the eighth grade.

On May 21, 1946, she married Edward Peter Wolthoff in Milwaukee, Wis. and they lived in LeRoy for the next 50 years.

She was an active member of St. Patricks Catholic Church in LeRoy and a member of the LeRoy Senior Citizens Group.

When her health started to decline, she moved to Austin and was a resident of the Adams Health Care Center at time of her death.

She enjoyed cooking, knitting, gardening, quilting and playing cards.

Survivors include daughters, Ruth (Robert) Harris, Austin; Elizabeth (Dennis) Hunter, Woodland, Calif.; brother, Carl Jax, Adams; sister, Josephine Eisterhold, Owatonna; sisters-in-law, Katherine Jax, Austin; Anna Jax, Adams; and one grandson.

She was preceded in death by her husband; brothers, Edward, Gregory and Joe Jax; sisters, Anna Gilgenbach and Helene Jax; infant sister, Irmena; and two grandsons.

Visitation: Was 4 to 7 p.m., Monday, at the funeral home and one hour before the service at the church.

Service: 1:30 p.m., today, April 23, 2002, at St. Patricks Catholic Church in LeRoy with the Rev. Father Russell Seepaniak officiating.

Interment: St. Patricks Catholic Church Cemetery.

Winifred A. Mulvihill, 97

Winifred A. Mulvihill, 97, of Chatfield, died Sunday, April 21, 2002, at Chosen Valley Care Center, Chatfield, where she had lived since June 2000.

She was born Winifred A. Cummings on Dec. 26 1904, in Fountain.

She graduated from Preston High School, attended normal teachers training in Preston and received a bachelor of science degree from Winona State College. She taught in Fountain area rural schools and later in the Chatfield School System.

In November 1934, she married Joseph Mulvihill in Fountain. He died in November 1963.

Mrs. Mulvihill was a member of St. Lawrence O'Toole Catholic Church in Fountain and its Altar Society, Minnesota Teachers Association and the Fountain Senior Citizens.

Survivors include daughter, Joann Leighton, Austin; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; brother, Dale Cummings, Fountain.

She was preceded in death by three brothers.

Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, April 24, 2002, with a 7:30 p.m. prayer service at the funeral home and at the church on Thursday for one hour before the service.

Service: 11 a.m., Thursday, at St. Lawrence O'Toole Catholic Church in Fountain with the Rev. Thomas Loomis officiating.

Interment: Carrolton Cemetery, rural Fountain.

Nancy K. Mens, 53

Nancy K. Mens, 53, of Austin, died Sunday, April 21, 2002, at Austin Medical Center.

She was born April 4, 1949, to Robert and Delores (Iverson) Morgan in Austin.

A lifelong Austin resident, she was housekeeper for many private residences. She attended Crane Chapel and belonged to the Eagles Club.

She loved the outdoors, riding jet skiis, camping and shopping trips.

Survivors include daughter, Shannon (Keith) Devonshire, Austin; three grandchildren; mother, Delores Morgan, Austin; brothers, Steven (Mary) Morgan, Austin; Greg (Janice) Morgan, Danube; nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, grandparents and daughter, Shari.

Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m., Thursday, April 25, 2002, at the funeral home.

Service: 7 p.m., Thursday, at the funeral home with the Rev. Randy Petersen officiating.

Interment: 1 p.m., Saturday, at Grandview Cemetery.

Merlin Dale Fossey, 70

Merlin Dale Fossey, 70, of Austin died Sunday, April 21, 2002, at Austin Medical Center.

He was born March 8, 1932, in Lyle, to Alfred and Amanda (Nelson) Fossey.

He attended St. Ansgar, Iowa schools, graduating in 1950.

He joined the Army in April 17, 1952, serving in the Korean Conflict as a medic and was honorably discharged as a sergeant on March 3, 1954.

On Dec. 17, 1955, he married Alice Foster in Grand Meadow. They lived in Austin, and Merlin worked 25 years as a mechanic for Thill Implement in Rose Creek, at Gerard School for eight years and at Comforcare Good Samaritan Center for seven years in maintenance.

He belonged to Holy Cross Lutheran Church and VFW Post 1216 and American Legion Post 91.

He enjoyed woodworking, camping and fishing.

Survivors include wife, Alice Fossey, Austin; children, Pamela (Steve) Forshier, Fountain Hills, Ariz.; Duane Fossey, Owatonna; Nancy (Terry Kropp) Fossey, Cave Creek, Ariz.; Dale Fossey, Harrison, Ark.; one granddaughter; brother, Darwin (Betty) Fossey, St. Ansgar, Iowa; sister-in-law, Phyllis (Frank) Dunlevy, Mason City, Iowa; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Wayne Fossey.

Visitation: 5 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, April 24, 2002, at the funeral home and at the church for one hour before the service.

Service: 1:30 p.m., Thursday, at Holy Cross Lutheran Church with the Rev. Robert Stohlmann officiating.

Interment: Grandview Cemetery with military rites by VFW Post 1216 and American Legion Post 91.

Anna Griese, 93

Anna Griese, 93, of Austin, died Sunday, April 21, 2002, at St. Marks Lutheran Home.

She was born March 22, 1909, in Dows, Iowa, to Charles and Pauline (Christopherson) Cramer.

She graduated from Belmond, Iowa High School on May 29, 1929.

She worked as a housekeeper, a cook at the Chandell Drive-In and Bob's Drive-In and, for 23 years, worked as a nursing assistant at Raymonds/Burr Oak Manor Nursing Home. She retired at age 74.

She enjoyed going on trips with friends, putting puzzles together, playing aggravation and weekend visits to Rochester. She was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church.

Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Laurabel "Lou" and William Tasler, Stewartville; Judith and Franklin Goertz, Rochester; Janice and Roger Jorgenson, Austin; Patricia and James Crofoot, Oronoco; sons and daughter-in-law, Robert Griese, Sr., Milwaukee, Wis.; Harlan "Butch" and Mary Jo Griese, Austin; 25 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; brother, Wallace Cramer, Belmond, Iowa; sister, Lucille Cramer, Belmond, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by sons, James and Arlo; three great-grandsons; a daughter-in-law; four sisters.

Visitation: 5 to 8 p.m., today, April 23, 2002, at the funeral home and at the church on Wednesday for one hour before the service.

Service: 2 p.m., Wednesday, at Holy Cross Lutheran Church with the Rev. Robert Stohlmann officiating. Organist will be Robert Goetz and soloist will be Karla Sellers. Casket Bearers will be Robert Griese, Jr.,Arthur Hall, Jr., Scott Griese, Rodney Goertz, Kurtis Jorgensonand James Crofoot, Jr.

Interment: Oakwood Cemetery, Austin.
