Lady Blue Devils sweep Rochester

The Riverland softball squad is still glad to be back into Minnesota Community College Conference play, posting a pair of decisive victories over Rochester, 9-1 and 15-3, Tuesday afternoon in Austin.
The Lady Blue Devils bumped their overall record up to 6-2, including six straight victories in MCCC play. Riverland plays Saturday at home against Minnesota West, starting at noon in Austin.
Riverland's four-run first inning in the first game set the tone for the rest of the afternoon. The Devils scored four runs in the first and fourth innings while pitcher Sherry Hanson (3-1) limited the Yellowjackets to five hits. The defense also played error-free ball.
Jenna Cummins finished the game going 4-for-4 at the plate with a double to lead the team. Tammy May pounded out two triples and three RBIs while going 2-3.
Marisa Kelsey (3-1) surrendered an early lead to Rochester but picked up the victory nonetheless as Riverland reacted to the early deficit for 15 runs.
Jessica Peck and Cummins each had three hits, including one double apiece. May and Missy Avery each went 2-4 with a double and two RBIs.
