Hayfield hammered out 14 hits and Cassie Kraetsch struck out 13 as the Vikings (5-1, 3-1) came from behind to beat Kenyon-Wanamingo 14-5 in a Hiawatha Valley League softball contest Thursday night in Hayfield.
The Vikings scored seven runs in the fifth inning to overcome the Knights' 5-3 lead. Crystal Stier's two-run double highlighted the offensive outburst. Hayfield added four more runs in the bottom of the sixth.
"We just weren't hitting, but suddenly we decided to," said Hayfield coach Jana Wagner. "We seem to be late-bloomers. Waiting until the last two (innings) isn't very much fun."
Two of Kenyon-Wanamingo's five runs came earned to Kraetsch, who surrendered six hits and three walks in the win.
Hayfield hosts Southland (3-1) in a non-conference clash today at 4:30 p.m.
