There's something said about being a team on a hot streak, and then there's being a team on fire.

Riverland's baseball team has found out what it means to be the latter.

The Blue Devils -- winners of seven in a row -- stomped visiting Minnesota West in an MCCC doubleheader Tuesday. Riverland won 22-4 in five innings in the first game, and then 15-3 in five innings in the second game.

Riverland amassed 34 hits in the doubleheader, including four home runs, and used only two pitchers throughout the day. John Roesler, who threw all five innings in the first win, went one inning in the second game before giving way to Sean Breslin. Breslin did not allow a run in cruising through the final four innings of the second game.

In game one, Riverland scored 11 runs before there were any outs. West's ace A.J. Johnson was quickly chased from the mound after Jacob Frey's three-run homer got the Devils out to an 11-0 lead. Frey's homer was the first of his two-year career.

"We played ball today, we played baseball today," said Riverland coach Dave Meyer. "We came out and beat them up in the first game, and then like I told the guys, the challenge was whether or not you can do it again, and we made them give up again."

Luke Larson went 4-4 in the first game, driving in four runs with four singles. Michael Nastav was 3-4 with a home run, four RBIs and three runs scored, and Jeff Kvam was 3-4 with three runs scored.

Every other Blue Devil hitter had at least one hit. Nate Vollbrecht was 2-2 with one walk, one hit by pitch, and four runs scored.

The rout continued into game two when Riverland (8-6, 8-4) jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Roesler began to wear down in the second, allowing the Bluejays to tie the score, before giving way to Breslin.

The bats picked Riverland back up with 13 more hits in the nightcap. Nastav hit his third homer of the season and Matt Nalan broke out with a bomb to dead center field, his first of the year.

"That's all he needed to get started and get his confidence going," Coach Meyer said.

Vollbrecht had three hits and four RBIs, Jamie Morrison was 3-3, while Nastav, Larson and Nalan each went 2-3.

Riverland has a chance to continue with its recent run with a trip to Minnesota West Saturday at Worthington. The MCCC doubleheader starts at 1 p.m.
