Amy Bickler threw her first no-hitter of the season and Lyle/Pacelli completed the sweep of Rushford-Peterson with wins of 1-0 and 11-1 at Peterson Monday night.
Bickler struck out nine amidst her no-hitter in the first game, and added six more strikeouts in the run-rule shortened nightcap.
Lyle/Pacelli (4-0, 4-0) pushed its only run across in the sixth inning of game one. Bickler led off with a single, stole second, moved to third on a pair of groundouts, and scored on a single up the middle by her battery-mate Rebecca Mino.
Six L/P hits were divided between three players. Bickler, Mino and Louise Mudra had two hits apiece.
L/P's lone run in the first game got the offense going for the second game of the twinbill, scoring seven runs in the second inning to take early control.
"The rout was on at that time," said L/P coach Tom Clements. "The bats kind of came alive in that game."
Lyle/Pacelli pounded out 13 hits in the second game, but this time allowed one R-P run. The Trojans got two hits off Bickler, who struck out six and walked none.
Bickler's bases-loaded triple in the third inning pushed Lyle/Pacelli to the 10-run plateau, and Brianna Enfield's RBI-triple with two outs in the fifth inning drove in Mudra as the game-winning run.
Mudra and Bickler each had three hits in the second game. Enfield and Kate Boisjolie had a two hits, including a triple, and two RBIs apiece. Mino added a double and two RBIs.
L/P takes a week off to practice for next Monday's Southeast Conference clash with intra-county rival Southland. The Rebels go to Lyle for a league doubleheader starting at 4:30 p.m.
Blossoms batter Alden-Conger
Abbey Bergstrom returned to the circle for Blooming Prairie and the Blossoms remained in the win column with a 10-0, five-inning Gopher Conference victory over Alden-Conger Monday night.
Bergstrom did not pitch in a pair of games because of a forearm injury, but did not disappoint in her return. Bergstrom struck out 11 in five innings, walking two and surrendering two hits in the run-rule shortened league contest.
The Blossoms, already leading 5-0, scored five runs in the fifth inning to end it. Andrea Miller ripped a bases-loaded triple to drive in three and later scored while Amber Vogt took second on a walk. After Maggie Romeo was hit by a pitch, Vogt advanced on a throwing error attempting to pick her off second base. She scored on the play.
"The speed continues," said BP coach Chad Gimbel. "We put a lot of pressure on opposing defenses with our speed."
Blooming Prairie (3-1, 2-0) needed just six hits to score 10 runs, while Alden-Conger (1-1) chipped in with three errors.
Kristi Schwake was the only Blossom hitter with two hits, driving in a run and scoring on Miller's triple. Vogt, Bergstrom and Hillary Jones each contributed singles.
Five others -- Romeo, Amanda Herdina, Rachel Stenzel, Emily Wencl and Rachel Long -- scored runs for BPHS. The Blossoms host Medford Thursday in Gopher Conference play, and go to the Stewartville Invitational on Saturday.
"It was good to get Abbey back," Coach Gimbel said. "She had a real strong outing, that was really good to see."
LOGM falls to 0-6
Fillmore Central/Lanesboro got 15 strikeouts from their pitcher and LeRoy-Ostrander/Grand Meadow could only score once in a doubleheader sweep in favor of FC/L Monday night in LeRoy.
LOGM got its top pitching performance of the season from Cassie Denisen, who struck out 10 and walked only one in the first game, a 4-1 loss for the Bulldogs. FC/L's only hit came in the top of the sixth inning and, combined with pair of passed balls and defensive errors, keyed FC/L to four runs.
Denisen and Aubrey Jacobsen split the innings in game two, with Fillmore Central scoring the game's only run in the bottom of the sixth inning. FC/L got their two hits off Jacobsen in that inning, ending the game with Tina Lukkason's RBI-single to right field.
Lacey Speer had two of LOGM's three hits in the doubleheader. Both went for extra bases, including a triple in the second game.
LOGM, now 0-6 overall, hosts Rushford-Peterson on Thursday.
Hayfield loses pitchers' duel
Hayfield's Cassie Kraetsch locked into a pitchers' duel with Pine Island's Steph Schroeder, and the host Panthers capitalized on four Viking errors for a 4-0 Hiawatha Valley League victory Monday night.
Both pitchers allowed only three hits apiece and walked none. Kraetsch struck out nine and Schroeder sat down 10. Pine Island (2-0) took a 1-0 lead when Schroeder scored on a passed ball in the second inning. The Panthers opened up a comfortable lead after Hayfield helped them out with all four of their defensive errors in the sixth inning.
"Cassie pitched great, we couldn't have asked too much more out of her," said head coach Jana Wagner. "It was just kind of a pitcher's duel. It was about as evenly dueled as two pitchers could be, but we played soccer a couple times there in the sixth."
Hayfield (3-1, 1-1) had two runners caught attempting to score on passed balls, and another cut down after trying to score from first on a throwing error.
Crystal Stier and Heather Crabtree each had triples for Hayfield. Crabtree's three-base hit led off the sixth, but even with the top of the order coming up the Vikings could not break through. Kraetsch had Hayfield's only other hit.
The Vikings play at Lake City tonight.
