The Austin Fast Pitch U18 Legion team lost all three games at the Elk River Class A State Tournament. The reason, according to Coach Denny Bray, is the bats were cold.

"With our team, we are either hitting well or we are not," Bray said. "We weren’t hitting well at the state tournament games. We have had a good season. We made state qualifier. We were first in the Owatonna tournament. We would have played on Sunday if we had our bats going. This is a good bunch of girls who play well as a team."

The Legion U18 played Northwood Young America in their first game on Saturday. They lost 3-1. Amy Bickler was the losing pitcher with six strikeouts and no walks. She allowed eight hits and Austin had two errors.

Northwood pitcher Amy Flusema had seven strikeouts, walked two and allowed five hits.

Tiffany Poirier had one hit with an RBI. Amber Wilson went two for three.

In game two at state, Austin played St. Paul Como Park area. They were defeated 8-2.

Amber Wilson was the losing pitcher. She allowed four hits walked four and struck out two.

The pitcher for the winning team, Sibeska struck out six, walked two, had two errors and allowed two hits. These were both singles for Austin.

Losing this game put Austin in the consolation bracket. Their final game was against Fridley and they lost 3-2.

Amy Bickler was the losing pitcher. She struck out two, walked zero, hit two hitters and allowed six hits. Austin had two errors.

Fridley pitcher Emily Dans struck out five, walked three and had three errors. She allowed two hits.

The Austin Fast Pitch Softball U18 team plays Red Wing at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Todd Park.

"We have played 38 games in 36 days," Bray said "We are 26-16. We split with Red Wing last time as we only had eight girls. This time we will have a full team."
