HAYFIELD – Thomas L. Knoll is the new Hayfield Public Schools superintendent.

Knoll began his new duties July 1.

He replaces Larry Shay, who resigned to accept a similar position at a northeast Iowa school district.

Knoll comes to Hayfield from the Beaver Creek Independent School District, where he had been principal and superintendent since 1993.

He also served as the Prior Lake superintendent for six years.

Knoll has a three-year contract with the Hayfield school district.

Bike ride coming

ROSE CREEK – The third annual Shooting Star Trail Bike Ride take place Saturday.

The ride begins in the parking lot at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Rose Creek with registration at 7:30 p.m. and the ride at 8:30 a.m.

The ride choices include a 19-mile exerciser, 30-mile workout and 52-mile farm and city tour. The entry fee is $15 before Saturday or $18 afterward.

In addition, there is a six-mile fun ride for which there is no entry fee. Mary Nelson will lead the ride and there will be games for the children at the conclusion of the ride.

Popular service continues

MONA, Iowa – The popular outdoor, drive-in services at Mona Lutheran Church are under way this summer.

Services will continue Sunday evenings through the summer except for July 1. The last service is scheduled Aug. 19.

Mona Lutheran Church is located one mile south of Lyle off U.S. Highway 218 or nine miles north of St. Ansgar, Iowa along the highway. Visitors should turn at Mona Drive.

The informal services begun by the Rev. Einar Unseth nearly 30 years ago allow worshipers to dress informally and remain in their vehicles for a message and music. Afterward, refreshments are served during a social hour.

The summer’s schedule includes: July 15, Praise Him of Glenville; July 22, Spectrum of Riceville, Iowa; July 29, Jan Johnson of LeRoy; Aug. 5, Spokesmen Quartet of Fairmont; Aug. 12, The Forte Miles of LeRoy; and Aug. 19, The Hayward/Trondjem Singers of Hayward, featuring Lyle native son, the Rev. Scott Meyer.
