Schools Superintendent Dr. James A. Hess took his new offices on the first floor of Austin High School without a hitch on Tuesday.

While Hess leaves office at the end of the week for a new job in Colorado, his staff will be working there throughout the year.

Julie Jensen, district human resources director, was very happy about the new offices.

"Well, for me personally, it has windows, and I’ve never had windows," she said. "It’s just nice to be in a building with students and out among staff and faculty."

The move did not interrupt the high school administration, which was overseeing summer school.

"The only thing that’s being moved is in-school suspension," AHS administrative assistant Keith Fleming said. "We had plenty of space, so that’s going to work out."

The entrance to the district offices, which currently is unmarked, is on the northeast side of the building on Third Avenue NW. The district is moving its administrative offices from a free-standing building on Fourth Avenue NE.
