It may be the weekend to celebrate with dads this weekend, but there still are other things to do in the area:
Pitch in and help out
How about volunteering on Saturday? Four branches of the Aid Association for Lutherans are sponsoring a Join Hands Day beginning at 11 a.m. Saturday. Volunteers will meet at the northeast pavilion at Todd Park and assignments will be made for the helpewrs to go to community work sites. Adults and youths are invited to participate in the community enhancements. Lunch will be at Todd Park at 3 p.m. Bring gloves and wear work clothes.
Learn a little history
Take in local history for the right price on Sunday – free. The Mower County Historical Society will host an open house at its historical center on the county fairgrounds in southwest Austin from 2 to 4 p.m. There will be free tours of the buildings and historical exhibits. Refreshments will be served afterward, too.
Take dad bowling
Echo Lanes in Austin is offering Family Day on Sunday. For $12 per hour per lane – shoe rental included – you can roll the bowling ball with dad and have a good Father’s Day. Call 437-8241 or check http://www.
